Online education isn’t always as highly considered by people as it should be. Even courses achieving the same qualification, and with a matching syllabus and accreditation, can be met with unfounded criticism. Studying online may be the best option for some students, but this doesn’t mean that it’s the easiest one. Here are several online learning myths debunked.
Employers don’t care about online qualifications
Although there will always be some misinformed employers who don’t value qualifications gained online, most will count all qualifications, no matter how they were gained (online or offline), when choosing the right applicant for the job.
With a vast choice of qualifications to study, including DNP programs online, this method of study is just as valid and valuable as if you gained your degree from a brick university. As more people turn to online studying, more people, including employers, recognize its importance.
Online learning can’t replace the classroom
Studying in a classroom will always have advantages. You get to know other students and support each other. You can also ask the tutor questions as you think of each one. Yet for many students, classroom learning at a set time isn’t a valid option. They may work shifts or have children at home and other responsibilities that make offline learning unattainable.
The support from other students can still be found online. Even if your online course is studied at your own pace, there will often be social media groups set up by other students or your tutor, and online meetings where you will be encouraged to join in if you can. You can also contact your tutor with questions, and sometimes other students may also be able to help.
You can’t be taught properly online
This depends on the student more than the tutors or the courses. However, if you begin studying with the correct mindset, engage with the course materials, ask questions, and put in the same amount of time as you would with any other type of education, you will get the most out of online learning.
It’s too easy
Online education is the preferred option for people with work or family commitments. It’s a flexible way to learn, but this doesn’t mean that it’s easier. To get the full benefits of the course, you need to be self-motivated and determined. When there are no set times or places, it can be all too easy to get home after a long day at work and put off studying. Anyone who motivates themselves to study and gains their qualification will have worked hard and pushed themselves to receive the end result.
There is no reason why online learning shouldn’t be considered important. In some ways, it’s a stricter form of learning than in person. If you find that others criticize your online qualification, remind them of the work that you’ve had to do to achieve it and how it has taught you to be motivated and value deadlines with minimal supervision.
